The BMW X4 Might Come Back as an Electric Car: Here’s What We Know!

BMW is about to shake things up in its lineup of sporty SUVs. As the current BMW X4 nears the end of its run, the brand is gearing up to introduce something exciting: the all-electric iX4. Unlike the X4, which it won’t directly replace, the iX4 will be a unique model that combines BMW’s style with a fully electric powertrain.

### What is the BMW iX4?

The iX4 is expected to be a fresh take on the coupe-style SUV, built on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, which is designed for electric vehicles. It will likely share some technology with the iX3, another electric SUV, but the iX4 will focus more on sporty design and style.

### Design and Appearance

Recent renderings based on spy shots suggest that the iX4 will look somewhat like the iX3 but with some distinct features. The front will sport slim headlights and a redesigned kidney grille reminiscent of BMW’s classic styles from the 1970s. The biggest differences are expected to be in the shape of the vehicle. The iX4 will have a sleek, arched roofline that flows into a fastback tail, giving it a more dynamic appearance. The back will feature thin taillights, and the whole design should make the iX4 slightly longer than the iX3.

### Interior Technology

While BMW hasn't released detailed images of the iX4’s interior, it’s likely to be similar to the iX3. This means it will probably include BMW’s new Panoramic iDrive system, which combines a slim display at the base of the windshield with a large touchscreen in the center. Expect a clean, modern layout with stylish steering wheel designs, and the option for exclusive upholstery to set the iX4 apart.

### Power and Performance

On the performance side, the iX4 is expected to feature a powerful 108.0-kilowatt-hour battery and an 800-volt electrical system. This setup would allow for super-fast charging, with a 10% to 80% charge taking around just 20 minutes under perfect conditions. Thanks to its aerodynamic design, this SUV might even offer a range of over 500 miles! Initially, it will likely come in a powerful 50 xDrive model with dual electric motors generating around 470 horsepower, while other versions (like rear-wheel-drive) may come later.

### Release Date and Price

The BMW iX4 is expected to hit the market in the latter half of 2026, with production starting around November. Although there isn't an official price yet, it will likely be in the same ballpark as the iX3, starting around $60,000 in the United States.
